Celebrating Community, Companionship and Sunshine

April was a joyful, jam-packed month at Redlands House, filled with laughter, kindness, sunshine, and meaningful connections between generations. From Easter bonnet making to police car sirens and therapy dog visits, there was never a dull moment.

Friendship Across Generations

We were delighted to be part of Global Intergenerational Awareness Week, with children from local schools visiting for weekly activities including reading, games and crafts. These friendships mean the world to our residents. One group even joined us on a special day out to Redwings Horse Sanctuary, travelling in style thanks to the East of England Co-op Funeral Directors, who kindly provided their limousines. A huge thank you to everyone who made the day so special.

Easter Joy

Easter was in full swing at Redlands. We had bonnet-making sessions, a fabulous Easter egg hunt, and a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny—thanks to the Norfolk Homeless Support Group. Our residents also enjoyed Easter crafts and plenty of cake with our “Little Visitors” from Friend in Deed, who brought smiles, energy and even a toy alpaca!

Connecting with the Community

We value our links with the wider Hellesdon community, and this month we welcomed visits from the local chapel for tea and hot cross buns, and from our local police officers for a brilliant hands-on engagement session. Residents got to try on uniforms, test out sirens, and ask questions—it was a hit!

Animals and Wellbeing

Animals continue to be a big part of life at Redlands. This month, we were visited by therapy dogs and guinea pigs (thank you to Cuddly Cavies!), which brought comfort and smiles to many. One resident who doesn’t often speak clearly said, “what a gorgeous dog” — moments like this show just how powerful animal visits can be.

Celebrating Our People

A big congratulations to Leanne, our Senior Carer, who was named Unsung Hero of the Month. Described as kind, inspirational and always going the extra mile, she represents everything we’re proud of at Redlands. We also welcomed Vanessa, a Psychology student joining us for work experience with the activity team—welcome to the family.

Time Outdoors and Tasty Treats

April gave us some beautiful sunny days, perfect for garden games, quizzes, and reminiscing outside. Our chef prepared homemade sausage rolls, mocktails, and cake platters for a hydration and nutrition session, all enjoyed in good company. One resident, Betty, fancied fish and chips and we made it happen — it’s the little things that matter.

Looking Ahead to May

Next month, we’re planning a VE Day celebration, more outings, and continuing our regular activities. If you’d like to join us for a tour or one of our community events, do get in touch — we always welcome new faces.
