If you have been searching for care home activities in Norwich, the honest answer is never a brochure. It is a glimpse of real life. So here is our June 2026 round-up from Redlands House in Hellesdon: a month of Father’s Day breakfasts with families, a trip to Norwich Castle Museum, a landmark kindness award with a local school, a little World Cup fever, five birthdays and plenty of sunshine in the garden. If you are thinking about care for someone you love, we hope these little snapshots bring you some warmth, and a bit of peace of mind too.

Community connections that mean the world

June’s proudest moment came from our youngest visitors. Together with Firside Junior School and the Wensum Trust, we celebrated a wonderful milestone: one hundred children have now visited Redlands House to earn their Community Kindness Award. Watching young and old chat, laugh and learn from one another never loses its magic, and it has been an honour and a privilege to meet every single one of them.

The community spirit flowed both ways this month. Residents loved a trip to the Hellesdon community fayre, soaking up the local atmosphere they have been part of all their lives. Back at home, we hosted our own community coffee morning with cake and good company, and the activity team was up at the crack of dawn for a fundraising sale of books, clothing, toys and bric-a-brac.

We also welcomed residents from Corton House care home for an afternoon of conversation and new friendships, with Malcolm on the piano keeping everyone entertained. When Gaynor from the Duncan Club called in with a stack of Norwich City match day programmes, the reminiscing went on long after the coffee cups were empty. A gentle visit from our local chapel rounded off a month where the community truly came to us, and we went out to meet it.

Out and about in Norwich

Some of our residents spent a lovely morning at Norwich Castle Museum, wandering among the artefacts and picking up fascinating facts along the way. Outings like this are a treasured part of care home activities in Norwich, because the city on the doorstep holds a lifetime of memories for the people who live here.

Smaller trips matter just as much. Betty enjoyed a spot of retail therapy choosing new shoes, others popped out for coffee and cake between word searches and salon appointments, and two of our ladies finished the month in style with a visit to Evie’s Owls and refreshments alongside our friends at the Co-op. A hot, sunny day well spent.

Celebrations, birthdays and a touch of World Cup fever

Father’s Day on 21 June was a highlight of the whole month. We invited families in to share a full English breakfast with their dads, and the dining room was full of chatter, laughter and second helpings. There is nothing quite like starting the day around a table with the people you love.

The party spirit carried on all month. We raised a cup of good English tea to King Charles with a birthday afternoon tea, celebrated Italian Republic Day with flags, word games and fun facts about Italy, and welcomed entertainer Joshua Johnson, whose visit had the dance moves flowing. And with the World Cup under way, football fever swept through the house. Brian had his football magazine and fixture cards at the ready, residents created a wonderful display, and everyone shared their score predictions before England’s match against Panama.

Then there were the birthdays. Betty was pampered in the salon for hers mid-month, and as June drew to a close we celebrated Enid, Ivy, June and Trish, with three birthday girls on a single day and our chef Steph working extra hard on the cakes. Happy birthday, ladies. You were all spoilt rotten, exactly as it should be.

What do care home activities in Norwich look like day to day?

Between the big occasions sit the quiet, familiar pleasures that shape a good week. The month began with a visit from Mad Science that left everyone fascinated, and June’s everyday moments included:

  • Garden games and fresh morning air before the heat of the day, with ice lollies to cool everyone down
  • Pampering sessions in our salon, from manicures to a birthday blow-dry
  • Creative mornings, including a butterfly display, hand-made flower bouquets and painting pictures kindly donated by Tammy
  • An afternoon at the virtual horse races, followed by Margaret’s Cliff Richard sing-along
  • Music from Heather and her keyboard, word games, and plenty of one-to-one time

None of this is by accident. Staying connected, keeping active and learning new things are among the NHS’s five steps to mental wellbeing, and it is these small daily moments, as much as the big events, that do that quiet work. It is also what families tell us they notice first when activities are done well: friendships forming, confidence growing, days with shape and sparkle.

FAQs about care home activities in Norwich at Redlands House

Can families join activities at Redlands House?

Yes, and we love it when you do. This June alone, families joined us for a Father’s Day breakfast, our community coffee morning and the Hellesdon fayre. You are welcome at our events, on our outings where practical, and for everyday visits too. Our Summer Fayre on 15 August is a perfect first taste.

What activities happen every day?

Every day brings a mix of group and one-to-one time: garden games, salon pampering, crafts, music, word games, gentle exercise and trips to local shops and cafes. Our activity team shapes each day around what residents actually enjoy, so no two days look quite the same.

How do residents stay connected to the local community?

Hellesdon is part of who our residents are, so we keep those ties strong. Schoolchildren visit through the Community Kindness Award, local clubs and chapels call in, we welcome residents from other homes, and we go out to fayres, museums and shops across Norwich.

How can I find out more or arrange a visit?

Just call us on 01603 427337 and we will pop the kettle on. You can look around, meet the team, ask anything at all, and see for yourself how June’s stories become everyday life at Redlands House.
